If you know me, you know I am patriotic and deeply care for our nation and our freedoms. I have just finished the 1st reading of "A More Perfect Union" by Dr. Ben Carson. I am officially impressed.
I hope you will read it! He goes through the Constitution in a deep, but easy to read and comprehend, way. He has a great grasp of our history and our founding document.
It seems to me that we are on a precarious position, and need to be very careful.
Much of the Constitution is being overlooked currently. In our case, it seems to me that the 4th, 5th and 14th Amendments have been severely violated so that we experience tyranny. I am told that this is because of the Patriot Act, which allows and maybe even encourages these violations. It makes me think that this act is itself Unconstitutional.
The Constitution tells us to be vigilant. Now is definitely the time.
P.S. - A long time ago in school, we had to memorize the Preamble, and we loved it and took it into our hearts:
We the people of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
And the words of Thomas Paine that inspired Washington's troops of 4,000 to win a victory over 20,000 Hessian fighters can inspire us today to stand for our Constitution and our Freedoms:
These are the times that try men's [women's] souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country, but he that stands it NOW, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly; 'tis dearness only that gives everything its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods, and it would be strange indeed, if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly regarded.
This day, this Columbus Day, this patriotic holiday, Guide us Lord and Strengthen us. We are grateful to have been born in this amazing nation. We are thankful for the many blessings that have come to us by virtue of being able to live here. Give us courage to stand up for what our nation stands upon, the values, the freedoms our founding documents that underlie it all. Open our eyes and ears so that we know what is really going on and give us the guidance to address it in such a way as to preserve for generations to come what we love and cherish here in the United States. We fully open ourselves to You and to be led in Your ways. Glorious Holy Presence, we give thanks that You hear us and answer. We seal this in the ancient seal of faith, Amen, Amen and Amen
