I was eating my cereal and blueberries a short while ago, and a new to me thought came barreling through. I need to share it now, for by the time we get to the end of the 40 values, it might have faded.
In Jesus' day, and for about 200 years prior, there was a growing belief/hope in God breaking through, clearing out all evil and evildoers, ushering in a new Kingdom ruled by God. It was called apocalypticism. It was thought that it would be violent.
Jesus is thought to be in that group by many scholars, perhaps the majority, as far as I can tell. That is possibly why later New Testament writers shifted to this point of view. But let's consider a couple of things.
This morning I was given a new insight about that, a vision.
Jesus was teaching how to live in order that we the people, could bring about a new kingdom, a new Godly way to be. In my vision, I saw he described a peaceful revolution of love and light.
Consider the synoptic Gospels, Matthew, Mark, and Luke (the 3 earliest Gospels). He taught in parables, in one liners, by his actions, and by example. Look at what he taught there.
He was humble, "It's not I, it's the Father within doing the work." He told us who we are - light, salt, loved, forgiven. He asked for the kingdom to come so that it would be on earth as in heaven. He told us that caring for one another was paramount, think of the sheep and goats parable in Matthew.
If we all could/would awaken to our divine nature and live it, we would have paradise here today. There would be no starvation, no war, no evil.
I realize it is possible, yet not likely that enough people will shift to awakening to the Truth of God, of Oneness, of Love. Yet, I can see clearly this morning that this is what Jesus asked of us.
Join me in aiming for this unlikely awakening, for Jesus' vision to manifest here on earth, in our lives, peacefully, together.
